Dr. Jeannette Mancilla-Martinez
Lab Supervisor
Dr. Mancilla-Martinez‘s program of research is focused on advancing the language and literacy outcomes of students from Spanish-speaking, low-income homes. With the goal of encompassing the heterogeneity within the population of Spanish-speakers, her research includes learners residing in regions across the U.S. from families originating in various Spanish-speaking countries, spans the toddlerhood years through adolescence, and considers Spanish home use and Spanish language and literacy skills.
Bhabika Joshi
Lead Research Assistant
Bhabika Joshi is a third-year Special Education doctoral student at Vanderbilt University. She completed her Communication Sciences and Disorders B.S. and English B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and her Special Education M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University. Bhabika was a 2018 Fulbright Scholar, where she taught English in rural Nepal. Prior to her doctoral studies, Bhabika worked as Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at an autism clinic in North Texas. Her research interests include behavioral interventions for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, international education policy, and working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Phoebe Ahn
Lead Research Assistant
Phoebe Ahn is a second-year Special Education doctoral student at Vanderbilt University. She completed her bachelor's at the University of California San Diego in 2017, and her Special Education M.Ed. from Vanderbilt in 2020. Prior to her doctoral studies, she taught elementary special education in California and South Korea. Her research interests include reading interventions and assessments for English Learners with disabilities.
In her eight years as an educator, Paige Johnson has been privileged to work with students and teachers in various K-12 settings. She has worked as a classroom teacher, special education program lead, and learning behavioral specialist. Currently, Paige is an upper-school community service coordinator at Hutchison School and is completing her Ed.D in K–12 Education Leadership and Policy at Vanderbilt University.
