Dr. Jeannette Mancilla-Martinez
Lab Supervisor
Dr. Mancilla-Martinez’s research focuses on advancing the language and literacy development of elementary school students. Her work spans early childhood through adolescence and examines factors that influence reading outcomes to support effective instruction and intervention.

Bhabika Joshi
Lead Research Assistant
Bhabika Joshi is a third-year Special Education doctoral student at Vanderbilt University. She completed her Communication Sciences and Disorders B.S. and English B.A. at the University of Texas at Austin and her Special Education M.Ed. at Vanderbilt University. Bhabika was a 2018 Fulbright Scholar, teaching English in rural Nepal. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at an autism clinic in North Texas. Her research interests include behavioral interventions for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and international education policy.

Phoebe Ahn
Lead Research Assistant
Phoebe Ahn is a second-year Special Education doctoral student at Vanderbilt University. She completed her bachelor's at the University of California San Diego in 2017 and her Special Education M.Ed. from Vanderbilt in 2020. Prior to her doctoral studies, she taught elementary special education in California and South Korea. Her research interests include reading interventions and assessments for students with disabilities.

Sara is a Research Project Coordinator with the LLD-CLED lab, where she oversees the integration of study components and data management to support efficient research processes. She previously taught English to both adults and children in Japan, South Korea, and Venezuela, gaining a broad perspective on language learning across diverse cultures. Sara has also worked in pediatrics quality improvement research and coordinated several education research projects, including developing a computer adaptive assessment for word reasoning and morphological awareness, creating a translanguaging curriculum, and studying digital versus paper reading.
